Owl for Life Leaves Legacy at Beloved Stoneleigh-Burnham

Toni R. Manning ’56 SPH was a devoted Stoneleigh-Burnham graduate. When attending Alumnae Board meetings and SBS events, Toni was always adorned with owls—earrings, pins, scarfs, sweaters and more.

In her professional life, Toni was a distinguished food scientist with an undergraduate degree from the University of Massachusetts Amherst and an MBA from the University of Baltimore. She had a successful career in the food industry while living in Baltimore, but ultimately returned “home” to Shelburne Falls, MA in 2011 and founded TRM, a food consultant firm.

Outside her career, Stoneleigh-Burnham wasn’t Toni’s only passion. She was an avid traveler and an active member in her community, donating countless hours of her time on various boards and committees. She was a true friend to many.

During the Memorial Service at Stoneleigh-Burnham’s Reunion in June 2022, Catherine “Kiki” Black ’66 MAB shared a remembrance of Toni, who took her in for a few days following an SBS Reunion. When car trouble stopped Kiki from returning home from an SBS reunion, Toni graciously hosted her until the repairs were done.

Toni passed away in October 2020. Shortly after she passed, the school learned that this loyal alumna had remembered her alma mater with a bequest in her will. Toni’s legacy will live on through the student lives her gift has touched.
