Trustee Laura Richards '60S Honors Sally Mixsell '69

Laura Richards’ gift helps show SBS is a school where each girl is appreciated for who she is, not for what she has.

When trustee Laura Richards ’60 established an endowed scholarship in honor of former Head of School Sally Mixsell ’69, she wanted to acknowledge Mixsell’s exceptional leadership. She also hoped to inspire others to support students at Stoneleigh-Burnham. Laura says, “My dream is that the new scholarship will give more students the chance for a Stoneleigh-Burnham education.”

The Sally Mixsell ’69 Endowed Scholarship Fund, which has already reached over $500,000, was a fitting way to recognize Sally, the first alumna to lead the School. Sally dedicated ten years to serving her alma mater in this role. Sally says, “Our school’s commitment to financial aid is testament to who we are at the core—a school where each girl is appreciated for who she is, not for what she has.”

During her tenure, Sally was a role model to hundreds of girls. Student Council President Julia Thayer ’18 says, “Sally’s gentle and thoughtful guidance has provided me with a blueprint of the ideal leader I hope to embody in the future. At Stoneleigh-Burnham, I have not only found my voice, but I am using it confidently wherever I go.”

The Sally Mixsell ’69 Endowed Scholarship Fund welcomes donations from alumnae, parents and friends. To learn more about the many ways you can support future Stoneleigh-Burnham School students contact Kathleen Tuck Fontaine ’83 at development@sbschool.org or 413.774.2711 x317.
