One Year at SBS Leads to a Lifelong Connection

Elizabeth Guyer Ebel

The memory of Elizabeth “Betty” Guyer Ebel ’49 lives on through the students who benefit from her generosity.

Elizabeth “Betty” Guyer Ebel ’49 was a student for just one year at the Mary A. Burnham School. After completing her education, she enjoyed a long career at The New Yorker as a reporter and editor, and maintained a lifelong connection with Stoneleigh-Burnham as a donor.

Sadly, Mrs. Ebel and her husband passed away within months of each other in 2017, and Director of Development Susan Mattei received a phone call with surprising news that Mrs. Ebel had given a percentage of a trust to create a scholarship fund. Mattei says the generous bequest leaves a legacy that will last forever. The Elizabeth Guyer Ebel Scholarship will help future generations of young women build confidence and discover their best selves.
